Gail Vaz Oxlade at the University of Alberta in Edmonton

Huge success! Money After Graduation hosted Canadian personal finance guru Gail Vaz Oxlade at the University of Alberta (my alma mater!) last night. I nearly threw up from nervousness, but thankfully held it together. At this point, I still can’t tell if her biggest compliment was naming my website a “valuable resource” or calling me a skinny b@#$%.

I want to thank Mikhaila from Fistful o’ Dollars for being my right-hand-man in the planning and execution of this great show. She was an extraordinarily good speller and dutifully wrote each and every guest’s name on a post-it then stuck it to each book for Gail to sign. It was an assembly-line of Personal Finance magic.

I managed to sneak Jim Yih from Retire Happy in at the last minute, but only because he’s a friend. I felt so cool rubbing shoulders with Canada’s Personal Finance bests!

I want to thank my lovely volunteer team (aka. best friends + one of my sisters) for all their help.

Also a big thanks to all my friends, family, and coworkers that attended. I appreciate your love and support! To the Edmonton and UofA community, thanks for being fans of Gail! She had a great time in Edmonton  so hopefully she stops by to see us again!

  7. My envy levels are still through the roof. I wish I could have been there!

  8. Louise

“Skinny bitch” is better than being called a princess! Good Job!

    • Bridget (Author)

bahahaha true enough! She okay-ed my Princess behaviour, thankfully, because I have tons of retirement savings + no credit card debt. PHEW!

  9. Virginia

First – your enthusiasm totally shows in these pictures and I had to laugh.

Second – I am totally jealous you got to host Gail V.! I used to love watching one of her TV shows here in the states, but I’ve gotten rid of cable and haven’t been able to see it in years. I think it was called “Maxed out” or something like that. I tried to watch some of her latest shows on the internet but I wasn’t able because I wasn’t a Canadian. Damn you Canada! The U.S. of A won’t forget this!

  10. Thanks for hosting!! 😀 it was awesome and thanks for signing my book as well <3 <3

  11. I still cannot believe we MET her! For once I was the attention whore in the lunchroom at work, bragging all about how awesome she was and how we MET her do you remember that time WE MET GAIL VAZ-OXLADE?!

She was absolutely hilarious when uncensored. Thanks for the mention and great pictures of us!

  12. That is seriously cool, I love her shows, her attitude, and her books. Awesome job pulling this all together!

  13. You did a fabulous job and I was so pleased at how excited and engaged the audience was. Well done skinny b*!ch! Keep it up, we need more young voices reaching out. Biggest hugs Gail
